Local Officials Not Expecting Reimbursement for G8

Local officials in Thurmont and elsewhere in Frederick County say they're losing hope that they'll be reimbursed for the cost of preparing for and hosting a summit of the Group of Eight industrial nations.

President Barack Obama hosted the G-8 summit at Camp David in May. Local officials only had two months to prepare after the White House announced in March that the event was moving from Chicago.

G8 summits in other cities have attracted massive protests, but the relative seclusion of Camp David meant that officials couldn't pinpoint where protesters would go. Much of the money spent by local governments went toward police and security.

Thurmont Mayor Martin Burns tells The Frederick News-Post that the town should have been paid already, but he's not expecting any money now.
