ANGER OVER SPEED CAMERAS
It was after receiving his third speeding ticket in one day that John McHale began to get suspicious about two newly installed speed cameras along Indian Head Highway/Route 210 in Forest Heights. McHale, who manages Eastover Auto Supply in Oxon Hill, said that within a month of the cameras being installed, drivers in seven of the company's vehicles racked up more than $400 in speeding tickets. NOISE LAW
If things don't get quieter around Charles County at least it will be easier to temporarily lower the volume. Last week the county commissioners directed staff to prepare legislation to amend the county's noise ordinance. The change would make enforcement easier as well as make the county's code more consistent with the state's rules. (The Independent)

UNHAPPY iPHONE4 USERS FILE SUIT IN MARYLAND
It’s only been out a week, but the message board murmurs and blog kvetching about poor reception on the Apple iPhone 4 have turned into lawsuits in Maryland and elsewhere. Kevin McCaffrey of Nottingham and Linda Wrinn of Baltimore filed a putative class action against Apple Inc. and AT&T Inc. Wednesday evening in U.S. District Court in Baltimore, alleging the new phones are defective. (The Daily Record)

BABY BEAR STRUCK BY TRUCK
An 18-month-old black bear strayed too far from its mother June 30 and was struck by a flatbed trailer near Aldie. The 90-pound bear suffered severe injuries, forcing Loudoun County sheriff’s deputies to euthanize the animal to put it out of its misery, Kraig Troxell, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said July 1.
