RAPID BUS FOR I-66
The solution to Interstate 66’s gridlock could be something as simple as a bus. But not just any bus — high-speed rail cars on bus tires traveling in a dedicated lane as part of a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. That was the take-away from Monday night, April 19’s town-hall meeting about Interstate 66 at the Fairfax County Government Center. U.S. Rep. Frank Wolf (R-10) and Supervisors Michael R. CAMPERS ROBBED
Three men face more than 20 charges alleging they used machetes to rob and threaten four teenagers, according to the Frederick County Bureau of Investigations. Nicholas S. Cann, 21, and George J. Carroll, 22, both of Frederick , are being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center on $125,000 bail. Zachary J. Lee, 21, of Hagerstown, is being held on $175,000 bail. A Montgomery County Council member says the county can make up to $2 million each year by opening its liquor stores on Sunday. Council member Mike Knapp says that's extra money the county can't ignore when it is facing a $1 billion budget gap.

MARYLAND MORTGAGE FRAUD
Maryland again had one of the highest rates of mortgage fraud in the nation last year, but the rate was lower than in 2008, according to a report released Monday by the Mortgage Asset Research Institute. Mortgage fraud in Maryland was the sixth highest in the U.S. last year, behind Florida, New York, California, Arizona and Michigan, with 36 percent more instances of fraud reported than the national average. In 2008, Maryland ranked fifth, with 82 percent more reported fraud cases than the U.S. average. (Gazette)
SUMMER JOB OUTLOOK
If the summer wait staff at your favorite beach hangout in Ocean City is looking a little more seasoned than usual, don’t be surprised. According to outplacement consulting firm Challenger Gray & Christmas Inc., hiring will improve over last year, when employment among 16- to 19-year-olds grew by less than 1.2 million jobs from May through July, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. JON GOSSELIN HEADED TO FREDERICK
The Greene Turtle and Mount St. Mary's University are teaming up to raise money for the school's athletic program.
The restaurant invited reality TV personality Jon Gosselin to Frederick to pose for photos with fans, collecting a $10 fee per picture and donating all proceeds to the college. The 8 to 10 p.m. Thursday fundraiser is open to the public. (Frederick News Post)
