Local Federal Workers Will Get 3-Day Workweek Before Inauguration

With the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday falling in the same week as the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump, federal workers in the D.C. area will have a three-day workweek in January.

Beth F. Cobert, the acting director of the Office of Personnel Management, issued a memo Friday offering guidance about the holidays on Jan. 16 and Jan. 20.

The memo also advised employees to expect commuting delays Jan. 18 and Jan. 19 due to road closures, transit changes, motorcades and setting up security.

OPM previously announced Jan. 20 would be a holiday for some federal workers when it released its 2017 federal holiday schedule. The inauguration is a federal holiday for federal employees who work in D.C.; Montgomery and Prince George’s counties in Maryland; Arlington and Fairfax counties in Virginia; and the Virginia cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church.
