Lakers, Obama Delight Children in Southeast

The NBA champions visiting with the president is nothing new, but the Los Angeles Lakers and President Barack Obama put a different spin on the tradition Monday.

Instead of visiting the White House, the Lakers joined Obama at the Boys and Girls Club at THEARC in Southeast.

They teamed to make care packages for wounded soldiers and some of the area's homeless.

Obama praised the Lakers as one of the nation's great sports franchises and thanked the players and coaches for sharing their time with children.

The Lakers are in town to play the Washington Wizards Tuesday night.
