A professional basketball player with local ties is giving back to his roots by donating $150,000 to the organizations that gave him his start.
Oklahoma City Thunder NBA player Kevin Durant is awarding three $50,000 grants on Monday. A native of Seat Pleasant, Md. Durant presented checks to the Seat Pleasant Activity Center, the Maryland Jaguars Youth Organization and the Community Kinship Coalition, Inc.
Prince George's County State's Attorney Angela Alsobrooks joined the 2012 Olympian and presented a proclamation to Durant's foundation, recognizing all of the work that the athlete has done in the community.
Durant began attending the Seat Activity Center at the age of eight. To this day everybody still treats him the same, said Durant.
"They helped me become the man I am today so I’m very excited about giving back and helping the center grow," Durant said.
Durant’s foundation aims to help at-risk youth ages 6-18.With the motto “play forward”, the Kevin Durant Charity Foundation strives to promote the things that Durant believes helped him on his journey to the NBA such as after-school and summer programs.
