Judge Denies Request to Revoke Dwyer's Bond

A judge has denied a request to revoke the bond of a Maryland lawmaker who was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence last month while awaiting sentencing on a drunken boating conviction.

The Capital reports that Judge Emory Plitt denied a prosecutor's request to revoke bail for Del. Don Dwyer on Wednesday.

Assistant State's Attorney Claude de Vastey-Jones, of Howard County, called the Anne Arundel County Republican ``a public safety risk.''

But Plitt, a former Harford County Circuit Court judge, denied the state's request. He says Dwyer hasn't been convicted of the August charge. He was out on bond at the time of his arrest.

Dwyer is awaiting sentencing on a separate charge after pleading guilty to drunken boating last year.
