Editor's Note: You've reached a page for 2017's event.
If you're looking for 2018's Backpacks 4 Kids event, go here.
Original 2017 story: NBC4 is Working 4 You -- and our annual Backpacks 4 Kids campaign is back with four ways to give local students in need a great start in the new school year!
Here’s how you can help:
1) Donate new backpacks and school supplies in person! On Thursday, Aug. 3, we’ll be on site with our Backpacks 4 Kids partners at Apple Federal Credit Union at their Kingstowne branch, at 6831 Sir Viceroy Drive, Alexandria, Virginia, from 6 a.m. until noon. All Apple Federal Credit Union branches also are accepting donations leading up to this on-site collection day.
Members of the News 4 team and Storm Team 4 will be there to accept your donations!
2) Support a specific teacher, school or town. Just click here to see a list of classroom tools that you can help purchase.
This option is part of a national movement. Other NBC- and Telemundo-owned television stations also have joined forces with DonorsChoose.org.
"Every year, teachers pay for classroom supplies their students will need out of their own pocket while students and their families weigh the costs of paying for school supplies and other household financial needs," said Valari Staab, president of NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations. "To help address these needs, our NBC and Telemundo stations are asking viewers to join them in ‘Supporting our Schools,” a month-long campaign to help raise awareness about classroom needs and what communities can do to help local educators and students. Education is the key that unlocks the doors to endless opportunities and I’m proud that our local teams are stepping up to the plate to help their neighbors and strengthen their communities."
3) Make a secure online donation here and NBC4 will purchase and distribute backpacks and supplies.
4) Send a check made out to CFNCR/Backpacks 4 Kids to:

With your help, we can give more local students the tools they need to succeed!
