Jobless Rates In NoVa Lowest In Commonwealth

Martinsville still with highest unemployment rate

Counties in D.C.'s Virginia suburbs continue to have to lowest jobless rates in the commonwealth. Unfortunately, other areas of the state are not faring as well.

The Virginia Employment Commission's latest report runs up to November 2011, and shows Northern Virginia's Arlington County having the state's lowest jobless rate with 3.3 percent, followed by Loudoun County's 3.9 percent -- both numbers are well below the statewide rate of 5.7 percent.

The city of Martinsville, near the state's southern border, retained Virginia's highest jobless rate in November.  The Commission says the city's seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate was 15.6 percent, down from 17.5 percent a year ago. Nationally, the seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate for November was 8.6 percent.
