The principal of an Arlington elementary school abruptly resigned this month, several days after she was arrested on DUI charges.
Jacqueline Smith, principal at Drew Model Elementary School, was arrested just after 3 a.m. March 7, after an officer found her stopped at a green light in Arlington. The officer said Smith was then seen weaving in and out of traffic lanes, almost hitting two parked cars.
She was pulled over on Rolfe Street, and given a field sobriety test -- which she failed.
Smith was appointed principal of the school last summer, after working as its interim leader. She has worked in the area for more than 20 years.
