Intoxicated Gym Teacher Arrested at Virginia Elementary School: Sheriff

A gym teacher at an elementary school in Loudoun County, Virginia, showed up to the school drunk and had bottles of alcohol in his car, authorities say.

Gary K. Goodwin, 40, of Leesburg teaches physical education at Horizon Elementary School in Sterling.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said an employee at the school alerted a school resource deputy Thursday morning that Goodwin was possibly intoxicated.

The deputy then found alcohol bottles in Goodwin's car that was parked on school property, the sheriff's office said.

Goodwin was charged with drinking or possessing alcholic beverages in or on public school grounds and public intoxication.

He is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Goodwin has taught for nine years and is also the head coach for the boy's varsity soccer team at Riverside High School.
