Inmate Dies in Custody of Alexandria Sheriff's Office

An inmate in the custody of the Alexandria Sheriff's Office died after experiencing a medical emergency.

Authorities say the 54-year-old inmate, who was being housed in the medical unit of the William G. Truesdale Adult Detection Center, died Saturday at about 11:30 p.m. at the Inova Alexandria Hospital.

Authorities say deputies called 911 at about 7:45 p.m. and the man was rushed to the hospital.

The Alexandria Police Department will conduct an investigation into the death, and the sheriff's office will conduct its own internal investigation.
