Those planning to travel south on Interstates 95 and 395 in Northern Virginia should expect multiple lane closures and detours overnight this weekend.
The closures will be in the southbound HOV lanes of Interstate 395 and also on Interstate 95 near Exit 148, leading to the Marine Corps Base in Quantico.
The Virginia Department of Transportation will close the lanes, weather permitting, to allow crews to work on the I-95 express lanes project.

Friday, July 19: At 11 p.m., the entire HOV lane facility of Interstate 95 will close between D.C. and Dumfries Road (Route 234).
Saturday, July 20: At 10 a.m., the HOV lanes will reopen to southbound traffic from D.C. to the Turkeycock (Edsall Road) exit, where drivers will have to exit the HOV lanes and merge onto I-395 South.
The HOV lanes will remain closed between Turkeycock (Edsall Road) and the Franconia-Springfield Parkway.
Between 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday, the entire HOV lane facility will be closed to reverse the direction of the lanes. The HOV lanes will open to northbound traffic between Dumfries Road and D.C. at 4 p.m. All HOV lanes in both directions will be shut down again by 11 p.m.

This is the second weekend in a row that VDOT has implemented lane closures on I-95 -- and it won't be the last.
VDOT says that next weekend (July 26-27), crews will follow a plan similar to this weekend's, but on the northbound lanes.
