Full Speed Ahead for Hybrid Owners

Signs point to rule extention

Drivers of hybrid vehicles could be living life in the fast lane for another year.

Fredericksburg.com reports drivers who bought and registered their hybrids before July 1, 2006, may be able to continue using HOV lanes on Interstate 95 and 395 until July 2011.

Several bills are now before the Virginia general assembly allowing the extention.

Lawmakers have been extending the privilege for one year, each year, with wide margins of support.

The exemption began years ago in an effort to encourage drivers to buy the fuel-efficient vehicles.
