Bowie State Murder Suspect in Court Today

A judge ordered the suspect in the Bowie State murder held without bond on Monday afternoon.

Alexis Simpson, 19, will remain in custody until her next court date on October 14.

Simpson is charged with first- and second-degree murder and first-degree assault in the death of Dominique Frazier. Simpson is accused of stabbing Frazier after the roommates got in a fight over loud music playing on an iPod.

Simpson's attorney called it a "tragic accident" and said Simpson acted in self-defense, the Associated Press reported.

Sunday night, family and friends gathered in the neighborhood where Frazier grew up in Northeast D.C. to hold a candlelight vigil in honor of what would have been the freshman’s 19th birthday. The group sang “Happy Birthday” and prayed, but many there said the celebration of Frazier’s life was overshadowed by her absence.
