How to Help Columbia Heights Fire Victims

After an explosion and fire displaced 74 people from a apartment building in Columbia Heights Thursday, many of the victims have been living in a rec center that was turned into a temporary shelter.

Now, other community members have come together to help them -- and they are accepting donations from others who want to help, too.

To find out how to offer a donation, visit a special web site set up by the Latin American Youth Center by clicking here. Make sure to select the option to have your donation dedicated to "Columbia Heights Fire Victims."

The relief effort is being coordinated by the Red Cross and D.C. agencies including the Office of Latino Affairs, the Mayor's office, the Latino Economic Development Center, Housing Counseling Services and District Councilman Jim Graham's office.
