How You Can Donate to the 9/11 Tribute Room

The ship that will soon be commissioned the USS Arlington arrives in Norfolk Friday, greeted by more than 30 Arlington County, Va. and Pentagon first responders.

The ship is a tribute to those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. It contains steel from the damage to the Pentagon on 9/11, as well as a 9/11 tribute room that honors the 184 responders and victims that died on the morning of September 11, 2001.

The tribute room is funded by private donations. To donate, click here.

The Arlington is the third ship of the United States Navy to be named for Arlington, Va., where the Pentagon is located. It is an amphibious transport dock, which has landing pads for helicopters onboard.

Her keel was laid down on May 26, 2008, at the Northrop Grumman’s Ingalls shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss. The ship was launched on November 23, 2010, with her christening on March 26, 2011.

The ship is known as the "Arlington" until it is commissioned.
