Amazon will occupy more than 5.5 million square feet of office space in Arlington County, Virginia, if it follows a $23 million incentive agreement proposed by the county.
Arlington County released the details of the contract on Tuesday. It outlines a timeline of how much office space the company needs to create over the span of about 14 years to maintain the deal.
By July 31, 2020, the retail giant needs to occupy 64,000 square feet, which is roughly the size of the White House.
A year later, Amazon will need to grow to about 250,000 square feet, or the equivalent of about four White Houses.
By 2034, the last year of incentive payments, the company's footprint will have to grow to more than 5.5 million square feet. That's about 83 White Houses.
One major issue the contract leaves out: requirements on hiring and paying construction workers. The Washington Post reports activists have pushed the county to require Amazon to pay union-level construction wages.
The county board will vote on the incentive plan on March 16.
