Police: Child Porn Suspect Committed Suicide

A man wanted in connection with a child pornography case killed himself after exchanging gunfire with agents from a Homeland Security Special Response Team, authorities said Thursday.

The response team went to the 9000 block of Covington Place in Manassas about 6:30 a.m. to arrest 56-year-old Douglas Clayton Lewis and search his home.

Lewis was leaving the home when officers arrived. Brandon Montgomery, a public affairs officer for Homeland Security, said Lewis fled down a nearby alleyway, pulling a gun on the agents when he was confronted. One agent then shot Lewis in his lower body.

Montgomery said Lewis ran behind a fence area, where he was found by agents with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
