Man Dead After Robbery Attempt at Reston Apartment; 2 Charged

Police charged two men in an attempted robbery in which another man was shot and killed and a fourth man was injured in Reston, Virginia.

Police initially said the incident was a home invasion, but later determined it was a robbery attempt and the men involved knew each other.

Initial investigation showed that five men entered an apartment Sunday in the 11600 block of Stoneview Square. Two men were inside the apartment at the time. They got into some sort of "disagreement," said Fairfax County Police.

Rashad Kejuan Daye, 24, of the Herndon area was fatally shot at about 2:50 p.m.; another man was wounded.

It is unclear at this time who fired the shots. Police said they have recovered some weapons at the scene.

"We don't believe right now that it's random," said Fairfax County police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell. "We believe at least one of the people in the home knew the people who were coming to the home."

Eddie Rodriguez, 22, of Woodbridge and Dominique May, 18, of Reston were charged with attempted robbery and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

"Right now we do not believe there is any urgent public safety threat," Caldwell said.
