A driver struck a Maryland state trooper's vehicle early Friday morning on the Beltway before running from the scene, leaving his or her vehicle behind.
The accident happened at about 4 a.m. on the Outer Loop of the Beltway near Forestville Road in Camp Springs.
Maryland State Police say the driver struck the trooper's cruiser, jumped out of his or her own car and ran from the scene.
The trooper was not injured.
No further details have been released.
A Maryland law requires drivers approaching an emergency vehicle displaying emergency lights from the rear to "make a lane change into an available lane not immediately adjacent to the emergency vehicle."
Violating of the "Move Over" Law is a primary offense with a fine of $100 and one point. If the violation contributes to a traffic crash, the fine is $150 and three points. If the violation contributes to a traffic crash resulting in death or serious injury, the fine is $750 and three points.
