Streets Flood in the Wake of Heavy Downpours; More Rain Coming

As bands of heavy downpours washed through the D.C. area Friday afternoon, they left flooded creeks and streams in their wake.

And that might not be the worst of it. The rain will continue through the evening, Storm Team4 Chief Meteorologist Doug Kammerer said.

Widespread flooding isn't a threat. But the area set a record for rainfall in a single day at Dulles Friday -- and that was enough to swamp some streets in Virginia.

Old Courthouse Road in Vienna was closed for a time, as was Woodburn Road in Annandale.

The weather was more severe farther south in Virginia. Tornado warnings were issued in Chesapeake and parts of Virginia Beach.

The rain will be over before sunrise Saturday morning, but the clouds will be much slower to leave.

Plan on a mostly cloudy, breezy and cool Saturday with afternoon highs in the upper 50s and low 60s. Sunday will be the better half of the weekend with more sunshine and highs in the low to mid 60s. Rain is likely to return late Monday.
