Friday shattered the record high temperature for July 29 by five degrees, reaching 104.
Thankfully, as the temperature was rising, the humidity was dropping, keeping the heat index at least a little bit in check.
A heat advisory was issued from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. By noon, the heat index in D.C. was 105. A hyperthermia alert was put in effect before 9:30 a.m. when the heat index reached 96 degrees.

A weather front to the north is sparking some strong thunderstorms Friday evening, but those should be gone by about dawn.
Saturday will see highs in the mid-90s and a heat index around 100. There will be the potential for scattered and isolated storms that could produce frequent lightning, as well as a lot of rain and wind.
Expect highs in the mid-90s again Sunday, but less humidity.
While the highs shouldn't threaten the triple-digit mark again in the coming week, they'll likely remain about the high-80s averages for this time of year.
