National Park Service officials say three areas of the Lincoln Memorial statue still show faint signs of green staining after a vandal splattered green paint at the site last week.
James Perry, the chief of resource management for the National Mall, said Thursday that conservators are hoping a fourth cleaning process will remove the last signs of the vandalism.
The Lincoln statue's marble was the most porous of all the areas damaged. Perry says the darkest pigment was left on the statue's left foot, left leg and chair arm.
The paint was splattered with flecks of color from the statue's mid-chest down to the floor. Most of the paint was removed last Friday after it was discovered.
