How can you prevent that mildew smell from coming out of towels and wash cloths? The folks at the American Cleaning Institute helped us with the answer.
It said don’t take any shortcuts when it comes to washing your towels. Make sure you are following the manufacturer’s directions exactly.
Another tip: Be sure to check that your towels are 100 percent dry before putting them away. Even a small amount of moisture can make towels smell sour.
If a towel already has an odor, wash it on the hot cycle and add one half cup of baking soda to the wash, the institute said.
