Taking advantage of retail bargains

Black Friday starts early this year, and many stores are already posting deals online and some plan to open Thanksgiving night.  Best Buy opens at midnight, but has released Black Friday ads.  They'll start giving out tickets for high demand items to those waiting in line starting at 10 p.m.

Deals include a Nikon Coolpix Digital Camera's - $60 off, and a Sony Bravia big screen TV - marked down from $1900 to $1100. DVDs are also going for as low as .99-cents.

A recent study showed 57% of people said they'll turn to Facebook to find deals.  Macy’s is making believers out of its customers - engaging them on Facebook asking them what they want to see go on sale.  The retailer will host special deals from midnight to 6 a.m. on clothing and shoes. Designer boots will be up to 50% off.

A hot item this year: tablets. HH Gregg has some going for $99 while Target is offering a free $35 gift card with the purchase of any Nook e-reader.

Opening Thanksgiving night: Walmart and Toys R Us. Walmart has been tweeting deals with hashtag #walmartelves. The retailer has a Wii Dance Bundle package for $178, and blenders for less than $10.

Fashion seekers can expect great bargains on staples like jeans and sweaters.  Gap is selling them for $20.

Don’t forget the little guys.  Small businesses also offer big savings.  Fashion blog ( has a list of hot deals, including 40% off at high end shop Ginger at Bethesda Row and up to 80% off gowns at Chevy Chase Bridal.  Old Town Alexandria ( has a ton of restaurants and stores with 20-30% off all day Friday.
