A new left turn signal is offering relief for those who drive through one of the busiest intersections in D.C.
Drivers heading east on M Street NW in Georgetown can now turn north on Wisconsin Avenue. All three eastbound lanes can still travel through the intersection.
The change was made at the request of residents and community leaders, transportation officials said.
To make room, officials eliminated nine parking spaces on the south side of M Street, moved a loading zone away from the intersection and relocated a bus stop.
The change ends an 11-year wait for Allan Wendt, a Georgetown resident since 1975 who first asked for the turn in 1999.
