More than 600 people who barely failed their high school equivalency test in Virginia have now passed without retaking the exam.
The Virginia Department of Education says GED Testing Service recently adjusted the minimum passing score from 150 to 145 and recommended that states apply the new cut score retroactively. The department followed that recommendation. As a result, 647 test takers who scored between 145 and 149 since Jan. 1, 2014, will now receive GED certificates.
The testing service is notifying students by email and by notices when they log into their online accounts.
A more rigorous computer-based version of the GED test was launched in 2014, prompting the change in the scoring.
