Fugitive Fights Extradition From Philippines to Virginia

A man wanted by Virginia authorities for more than a decade is fighting efforts to be extradited from the Philippines to face drug charges.

Nickolas George Spanos, 48, was arrested in the Philippines late last year. He is fighting efforts to be extradited to Henrico County, where he faces drug indictments from the late 1990s for allegedly dealing in hundreds of pounds of cocaine, reports the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Authorities say Spanos fled the state in 1998 as his associates were arrested.

Henrico County Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor says there is no certainty about when Spanos could return to Virginia to face charges.

An FBI spokesman said the agency is aware of the outstanding charges from Henrico and has been monitoring the cases in the Philippines.
