Former Gov. McDonnell's Son Found Guilty of DUI in Va. Beach

One of former Gov. Bob McDonnell's sons has been found guilty of driving under the influence and refusing to submit to a sobriety test.

Macie Pridgen Allen, a spokeswoman for the Virginia Beach commonwealth's attorney, said Friday that the judge fined 24-year-old Robert Ryan McDonnell $250 and suspended his license for one year.

After that McDonnell can apply for a restricted license with ignition interlock.

She said that's a common sentence for a first time DUI offender who has no prior record.

Richard Doummar, an attorney for McDonnell, said they're appealing. He declined to comment further.

McDonnell was arrested in the Sandbridge section of Virginia Beach in December 2014.
