Christmas Eve, 2015 saw record high temperatures throughout the D.C. area, with all three major airports recording 71 degrees.
And Christmas Day is likely to be the second-warmest in the record books, according to Storm Team4 Meteorologist Amelia Segal.
On Thursday, Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport broke 65-degree records set in 1990 and 1982. Dulles International Airport broke a 1982 record of 66. Reagan National Airport broke its 1933 record of 69.
The National Weather Service also reported that the moisture measured in the region's atmosphere Wednesday evening was the highest recorded in December through April since such records began in 1948.
On Wednesday, Baltimore received 2.01 inches of rain, breaking the 1907 record of 1.04. Reagan National saw 1.67 inches, to break its 1907 record of 1.3.
Local authorities said wet roads were likely the cause of multiple accidents.
Montgomery County Fire & EMS said Thursday afternoon they've responded to more than 50 accidents in the past 24 hours, mostly due to wet road conditions. They also said more than a dozen pedestrians were struck by cars, none fatally.
A flash flood watch was canceled Thursday for much of the D.C. area, Northern Virginia and Montgomery and Prince George's counties.
