Firefighters Rescue Woman From Burning Prince George's Co. Home

Prince George's County firefighters rescued a woman who was trapped inside a burning house Sunday morning.

Firefighters from Silver Hill Fire/EMS Station 829 were the first to arrive to find smoke coming from a duplex in the 3100 block of Bellbrook Court. They were alerted to a person trapped inside the burning structure.

Officials said firefighters made an aggressive search, finding the woman in the basement. She was removed, and the fire was extinguished.

The woman, believed to be around 20 years old, was transported to a burn unit, suffering from second-degree burns to about 40 percent of her body and smoke inhalation. She is listed in serious condition.

Other residents in the house smelled smoke and tried to make their way to the source of the smoke in the basement but were driven back by the thick smoke. They said their smoke alarm apparently was non-working and failed to activate.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined and remains under investigation. Fire loss is estimated at $50,000.
