A D.C. fire lieutenant is facing charges in Prince George’s County, Md., following a bizarre burglary.
In January, someone backed a pickup truck to Robert Stanback’s shed in Upper Marlboro, attached one end of a chain to the doors and the other to the truck and hit the gas, tearing down the doors. About 20 bales of hay stored in the shed were taken.
After months of investigating, 49-year-old D.C. Fire and EMS Lt. Kellene Davis is charged with burglary, malicious destruction of property and theft.
Stanback grew up in Adams Morgan but he bought a 64-acre plot of land in Prince George’s County upon his retirement from D.C. government in order to raise horses. He has 11 goats, owns five horses and boards 18 other horses on his property.
Davis, who is stationed at Truck 15 on Rhode Island Avenue, used to board horses with Stanback but moved them away a couple of years ago.
The hay sells for about $6 a bale, and if Davis had gone to Stanback to ask for a couple of bales, he says he would have given them to her.
The Fire Department placed Davis on leave.
If convicted on all charges, she could face a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.
