Fire Engulfs UPS Packages, Vehicles, Loading Area in Maryland

Fire engulfed part of a UPS facility Monday night, damaging several vehicles and a package loading structure at the Frederick, Maryland, site.

The fire started about 11:30 p.m. at a facility on the 6700 block of English Muffin Way. When firefighters arrived, they found 10 vehicles and a package loading structure engulfed in flames.

No injuries were reported.

Officials have not said how many packages may have been damaged in the fire, but video from the scene showed at least one container containing charred cardboard boxes.

Hundreds of packages may be burnt or water logged.

"We are working to identify and notify shippers of any damaged packages, as well as reroute packages that would have gone out on the damaged trucks," UPS told News4.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
