Authorities are investigating a fire at a restaurant inside the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in downtown Washington.
Officials said the fire broke out Tuesday morning at the building in the 1300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, just blocks from the White House. D.C. Fire & EMS said there are several separate fires in ducts and that the fire originated at the Cajun Grill on the concourse level.
NBC Washington's Megan McGrath reported that firefighters are using thermal imaging to look for more possible fires. Firefighters had to open up some of the walls to check for hot spots, fire department spokesman Pete Piringer told the Associated Press.
Eastbound Pennsylvania Avenue NW was closed between 14th Street and Constitution Ave NW. Access to some parking garages was restricted. Streets reopened by 9:30 p.m.
No one was being allowed in the building while firefighters investigated, but workers were expected to be allowed back inside at some point Tuesday.
