Fire at Takoma Park Apartment Related to Arson: Officials

One hospitalized in apartment fire.

A fire that broke out at an apartment complex in a D.C. suburb is related to arson, officials said.

One person, who was hospitalized, is being interviewed, Montgomery County Fire spokesman Pete Piringer said. That person's name was not released, pending charges.

No one else was hurt.

Firefighters arrived at the Hillwood Manor Apartments in Takoma Park, Maryland, Sunday afternoon to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the first floor of the complex.

Firefighters used a ladder to rescue five people trapped on the second floor, Piringer said.

Two people were displaced from the complex.

The damage is estimated to be about $20,000, Piringer said.
