A Prince William County man is accused of selling prescription drugs outside a daycare center owned by his wife.
Ralph Caldwell, 38, was arrested Wednesday. He is charged with conspiring to distribute Schedule II controlled substances. A federal court document said Caldwell sold "large amounts" of oxycodone, Percocet tablets and codeine syrup in and around the county.
Caldwell's wife has not been charged in the case. She is the owner of the Little Angels Daycare in Dumfries Shopping Plaza, where Caldwell is believed to have stored drugs.
An informant also told police that Caldwell drank pineapple soda laced with codeine while driving children in the daycare center's van, and that he kept a gun at the daycare.
He made sales in an alley behind the shopping plaza, according to the document.
The informant told Prince William County Police in January that he or she had purchased prescription drugs from Caldwell dating back to 2011, as often as two or three times per week.
Police had the informant buy drugs from Caldwell and then contacted the FBI, according to authorities. Under FBI supervision, the informant made several more purchases from Caldwell outside the daycare and at another location, authorities said.
On more than one occasion, Caldwell went inside the daycare to adjust the amounts of the drugs being requested, the document said.
Caldwell's next court date is unknown.
Little Angels Daycare was closed Wednesday.
