FBI Asking for Public's Help to Find Ashanti Billie's Killer

The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward and reaching out to the public to try to find out who murdered Ashanti Billie, a 19-year-old woman whose body was found in North Carolina days after she went missing from Virginia.

Billie, who was a student at The Art Institute of Virginia Beach, was reported missing on Sept. 18 when she did not show up for her job at a sandwich shop in Norfolk.

Her cellphone was found later that day in a dumpster nearly 3 miles away from the area. Neighbors spotted her car Sept. 23 on a dead-end road in the Ocean View section of the city. They told police the car had been there for several days.

Billie drove a 2014 white/cream color Mini Cooper with a black top and Maryland tags 2CX-0575.

Her body was found behind a church in Charlotte, North Carolina on Sept. 29.

The FBI is asking anyone who may have seen Ashanti or her Mini Cooper in the Charlotte area during the time frame of Monday, Sept. 18  to Saturday, Sept. 23 to contact the FBI Norfolk Field Office.

The Mini Cooper may have been seen in the area surrounding Griers Grove Road, or along any potential travel route between Hampton Roads and Charlotte, including but not limited to:

  • The travel corridor from Rt. 17, to I-64 through Rocky Mount and Raleigh to Charlotte
  • The travel corridor from Route 58 to I-85 through Durham and Greensboro to Charlotte
  • The travel corridor from Rt. 58 to I-95 through Raleigh to I-85 to Charlotte.

The FBI is also asking for residents and businesses to provide video surveillance recordings or digital dash-cam videos that may have captured the Mini Cooper traveling between Hampton Roads and Charlotte during the same time frame.
