Father and Teen Son Dead in Northeast Double Shooting

A father and his teen son were found dead in an apartment in Northeast D.C. Friday evening, police said.

Ahkil Tavon Scruggs, 17, and his father, Hugh Scruggs, were found dead in an apartment at the 1100 block of Queen Street NE near Kendall Demonstration Elementary School, according to police.

"I'm hurt. I'm in a lot of pain right now," said Elizabeth Scruggs, Ahkil's mother.

A relative found the bodies with several bullet wounds and called police around 5:45 p.m. Friday evening.

The shooting did not happen Friday and it's unclear how long the bodies were inside the apartment, a source close to the investigation said.

"Right now we don't have any suspect information, that's why we're asking the public to report anything that they've seen suspicious," said D.C. police patrol Chief Lamar Greene.

Ahkil was a student at Dunbar High School where he played football, neighbors said. He was a good, well-liked teen, Elizabeth said.

"My son, all he did was go to school and play football, so I'm not understanding why anybody would do this to him," she said.

Anyone with information on the shooting should call police at 202-727-9099 or text the department's tip line at 50411.

"He played football. He was excelling in school. He didn't deserve to die like this," Elizabeth said.
