Family Raises Money for Father Who Is Donating Organ to Baby Daughter

A family in Northwest Washington is raising money to support a father as he prepares to donate part of his liver to his 8-month-old daughter.

Nathan Epps, who works at the Franklin Hall beer hall in Cardozo, said his days have gotten tougher after he found out that his baby daughter Heaven had been diagnosed with biliary atresia, a liver disease that affects infants.

Epps said he and his wife expected that their daughter would need a liver transplant, but with every day that passed, his daughter's condition worsened.

"She wouldn't each as much," Epps said.

As he watched his daughter's health worsen, he considered stepping in while the family waits for a donor.

So in the meantime, Epps' coworkers at Franklin Hall are stepping up to help, taking a portion of the proceeds from Sunday's beer sales to donate to Epps and his family.

Meanwhile, his family is asking people to donate to an online fundraiser. They ask for anyone who can to donate to help ease some of the medical and financial burdens the family is facing.
