Maryland Father Raymond McCarter Jr. Killed in Wrong-Way DUI Crash

"Imagine being called and being told 'I'm on my way home. I'll see you soon. I love you. I can't wait to see you and the kids,' and then have your life be taken away"

A family in Bowie, Maryland, is mourning after a father of two was killed in a wrong-way, DUI crash near Fort Meade on Saturday.

Anne Arundel police said 33-year-old Raymond McCarter Jr. died early Saturday morning when a pickup truck driver traveling the wrong direction on Route 32 struck McCarter's car head-on.

The driver of that pickup truck, 39-year-old Christopher Thomas of Glen Burnie, faces two charges of manslaughter and two charges of driving under the influence.

Police said they responded to the two-car crash east of Route 198 at about 2 a.m. and found McCarter dead at the scene.

His wife, Natalie McCarter, said McCarter was on his way home from a friend's house when the crash occurred.

"Imagine being called and being told 'I'm on my way home. I'll see you soon. I love you. I can't wait to see you and the kids,' and then have your life be taken away," she said.

McCarter had been married for 11 years and was a father to two children, age 7 and 9.

"He was a hard worker. He was a family man," Natalie McCarter said. "He was somebody that you wanted to be around. His spirit was infectious."

The family is devastated.

"My two children will never have their father again. He is completely irreplaceable, and his life is gone." McCarter's widow said.

McCarter's family and friends are now raising money online to cover his funeral costs
