‘Somebody Please Come Forth': Family of Greenbelt Woman Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash Pleads for Closure

The family of a woman struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Greenbelt, Maryland, is pleading for the suspect to come forward.

Chanel Nicole Hugley, 35, was hit Friday on Greenbelt Road near Capital Drive -- just below Interstate 495. Officers found Hugley's body lying off to the side of the road shortly after 7 a.m. It's unclear how long she had been on the road before she was discovered.

"It just hurts me to know that the person that actually did that didn't stop and just left her down there. I mean, she could've actually survived that," said Hugley's father Andre Bailey.

Bailey and other relatives and friends of Hugley's walked along Greenbelt Road Sunday night and gathered near the site where she died. They brought flowers and balloons and said a prayer.

"We're out here because she was loved and all the people that you see out here played a very important part in her life ," said Hugley's mother Valerie Bailey.

Investigators believe the suspect was driving a 2007 to 2011 Toyota Camry that is dark gray and silver.  The car should have damage to the passenger side and a missing passenger side mirror, police said.

Hugley's family is hoping someone will come forward with information that could bring them closure.

"Somebody please come forth and help us," Andre Bailey said.

"Nikki was the love of my life, my fiance and my rock. She was wise beyond her years. A gentle spirit who would never hurt anyone," Talisha McDaniel, Hugley's fiance, said at the gathering.

Relatives described her as a caring and giving person who didn't deserve to die this way.
"Nikki was loved, you know, and we miss her. And the thought that someone could just leave her out there like that - it's just beyond me," said Hugley's aunt Sonia Bailey.
