Fairfax County Parkway: Two Years and Counting

Construction on the final portion of the Fairfax County Parkway extension is officially under way.

State officials, including Secretary of Transportation Pierce Homer and Fairfax County Board of Supervisors incumbent Chairman Gerald Connolly, helped crews break ground on the next phase of the parkway near Fullerton Road.

When construction is complete, drivers will have "a direct route to I-95 from Rolling Road to Fullerton Road through the Engineering Proving Grounds" at Fort Belvoir, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation Web site.

Transportation Secretary Homer thanked the Department of Defense for its cooperation and help with this phase of the project.

Officials expect this phase of the project to be finished by 2010.
