Equipment Failure Knocks Out Power for 89 Percent of Potomac Edison Customers in Montgomery County

Equipment failure knocked out power for 89 percent of Potomac Edison’s customers in Montgomery County, Maryland, Monday afternoon, the utility said.

About 41,000 customers were affected by the outage about 1:50 p.m. Monday, including 29,000 customers in Montgomery County, company spokesman Doug Colafella said.

Service was restored to about half of those customers within a couple of hours, and everyone was expected to be back in service by late afternoon.

An equipment failure at a substation knocked out a major distribution line, Colafella said.
