Employees Required to Work Without Pay During Shutdown Sue Government

Some federal employees who worked during the government shutdown but didn't get paid are suing the government.

A D.C. law firm representing the workers said the government violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by requiring essential workers to report to work without pay.

During a press conference Monday, attorneys said about 1.3 million workers are now entitled to compensation for losses they suffered during the shutdown.

The lawsuit covers only five plaintiffs, but hundreds of others have filed paperwork to join the case.
