Light Snow Falls in D.C. Area

Light snow began falling around the D.C. area Wednesday afternoon.

The light snow was expected to continue in the early morning hours Thursday.

NBC Washington meteorolgist Doug Kammerer expects just a coating in D.C., its suburbs and to the north. An inch is possible further south of D.C.

It should be cold enough overnight and Thursday for snow to stick to untreated surfaces. Expect highs in the low 30s Thursday, with wind chills in the 20s.

So some roads could be slick Thursday morning, and not much melting is likely.

But after lows around 20 degrees Friday morning, expect a warmer day, with temperatures likely reaching the low 40s.

By Sunday, we should see high temperatures in the 50s.
