Drunk Driver Convicted in BW Parkway Crash That Killed His Wife, Her Sister

The driver's wife turned 34 the day of the crash, the U.S. Attorney's Office said

A federal jury has convicted a man of involuntary manslaughter in the deaths of his wife and her sister in a car crash in Cheverly.

Twenty-five-year-old Charles Wiggins of Cottage City was convicted Thursday in federal court in Greenbelt.

According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Wiggins was driving on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway at 2 a.m. on Dec. 12, 2013 when he rear-ended a truck near Route 222.

The truck went into the woods, and Wiggins’ car flipped over and skidded on its roof more than 200 feet.

Wiggins' wife, 34-year-old Kiana Wiggins, and her sister, 21-year-old Angel Barbour, who were passengers in the car, were killed. Barbour’s boyfriend was sitting in the back seat and was injured along with the two people in the truck.

Wiggins had a blood alcohol level of .19%.

He faces a maximum of 16 years in prison for two counts of involuntary manslaughter and six months in prison for reckless driving at sentencing on June 21.
