Dozens Scour Murky Waters for Missing Officer

The 19-year police veteran disappeared during training exercise in Pohick Bay more than 24 hours ago

LORTON, Va. -- Fairfax County police are continuing to search the murky waters of Pohick Bay for a veteran police officer who failed to resurface during a diving exercise more than 24 hours ago.

The officer disappeared Tuesday afternoon during the mandatory training for police officers in Pohick Bay Regional Park near Lorton, officials said. They are not releasing the 42-year-old officer's name.

Crews searched throughout the night and continued to do so Wednesday, Col. Dave Rohrer said. The FBI, U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities are at the scene, police said.
