As many as 50 puppies were seized by Animal Control officers in Fairfax County, Virginia on Monday as officers investigated a pet shop.
The dogs were removed from Dreamy Puppy in Chantilly. Animal Control officers had received multiple complaints from citizens about the health of the puppies in the store, a representative said.
Officers removed between 40 and 50 puppies from the store and took them to a veterinarian to be examined. The vet will also determine their approximate ages to see whether the puppies are old enough to be sold legally. Dogs sold in pet stores must be no younger than eight weeks old, the Animal Control representative said.
The investigation into Dreamy Puppy is ongoing. No charges have been filed.
The owner of the business declined to comment on the probe.
