Gunman, Woman Hospitalized After Shooting at Crystal City Commercial Building

Police don't believe there is an active threat, they said

Two people were shot in Arlington's Crystal City neighborhood Wednesday. Multiple 911 calls reported someone "gained entry" to a commercial building, Arlington County Police said.

Police responded to the 1500 block of Crystal Drive about noon.

The two people who were shot — the male shooter and a female victim known to the shooter — were taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, police said. An officer also fired his weapon, and police can't confirm whether the gunman, 47-year-old Mumeet Muhammed of D.C., shot himself or was shot by police.

"At this time there is not believe to be any active threat to the building and all involved parties have been identified," police said on Twitter. "Police continue to investigate and conduct a methodical search of the building."

Police did not provide more information about what led up to the shooting.

They asked people to shelter in place but lifted the order shortly before 1:20 p.m. Police remain on the scene.

Muhammed is charged with aggravated malicious wounding, felon in possession of a firearm and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
